Supporting the NHS
Clapping helps human connect with each other. We need to affiliate to survive because we’re not very strong species as individuals. Do we clap because it makes ourselves feel better, part of an exclusive group following the example set by the leader we have voted in, that can judge others who do not join in? Such as the mother who is trying to ready their child for bed but at 8pm every week the unsettling virus conversation is brought up or the shift worker who’s getting up at 2am and has their sleep disturb by pots and pans.
I don’t doubt these good intentions. But is it not rather convenient to the Conservatives who have consistently under-funded the NHS and led our country away from Europe (excluding those immigrant staff that help save our leader's life) that by clapping you cannot hold up placard? And that If our mouths are full of praise for ‘our NHS heroes’ (of whom they say they’re just doing their jobs that they enjoy but only wished it was properly funded with the right levels of staff, PPE and tea to function safely, efficiently and professionally) then we cannot ask the difficult questions to those ‘leading us’ prior, during and after this crisis.
Worst is yet to come. There is going to be a massive wait-list compounded by further deterioration to some patients, all while our leaders would say we need to focus on our economy and move forward. Will the NHS ever recover? Or will the Conservative achieve their goal of removing healthcare for all? If you want to do your bit for the NHS now is the time to live very healthily by eating well and exercising your physical and mental health every day. Floss. Alcohol weakens the immune system, increases inflammation and compromises gut health not to mention motivation, self-control and sleep. So if’s it’s not a really celebration, whatever your fix of choice is, three (or less) is the magic number accompanied by generous helpings of nights off.
And if you want to support the NHS further be vocal. By all mean clap but message your MP. Sign petitions. Have placards. It’s for us to decide how we will move forward and our voted in servants role to enable it. For example our common-sense knew we needed vitamin D so we went to out to our parks. Later the leaders did a U-turn and rightly supported us. I hope we do use this opportunity to change, I think we will only move forward when there is greater equality and our natural environment is priorities over profits. As we’re weak as individuals we are better together so we need to keep our boarders open to the skills, creativity and knowledge we need. So stay safe, be mindful: don’t touch your face. Wear sunscreen and always dispose of your PPE appropriately leaving no trace.
Common-sense prevails.
